Product Description

A hydrating under eye primer that reduces key signs of aging in the eye area and preps it for makeup.

Product Detail

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer is an ultra-hydrating formula that primes the undereye area while reducing the look of fine lines, puffiness, wrinkles, age spots, and dark circles. Smooth under eyes before makeup application or wear alone for instant brightening. Its soothing qualities improve skin texture and tone, and unlike moisturizer, this silky primer prevents concealer from slipping off and settling into fine lines. This luxurious, serum-like texture blends easily into the skin, providing a temporary lightening effect. But this won’t be apparent once foundation or concealer is applied over it, nor will it leave any shimmer. As a primer, this keeps makeup from slipping into fine lines and wrinkles.

After seeing so many positive reviews for this stuff (and not having the best luck with just a concealer), I gave this a shot, hoping for the best. Well, maybe my expectations were too high, because it definitely didn’t help me. My makeup smudges pretty easily, and it seems like my fine lines are even more noticeable. Maybe I’m doing it wrong? Either way, I don’t think I’ll buy this again, and I’m still thinking whether I’m going to return it or just give it to someone else. It did seem to make my eyes brighter, and it felt really good on my skin, but it didn’t actually fix any problems for me.

If you’re not sure whether an eye primer is a good investment, there are a few things to consider. It will take you a couple extra minutes in the morning, because you have to wait for this to dry before you can put anything on top of it, but through the course of the day it actually has let me leave my makeup at home — I save a ton of time when it comes to touch ups. The tube lasts forever, too, so the price isn’t as unreasonable as it seems. I will buy this until someone comes out with something better — and that’s going to be pretty hard to do!

I have never used an under eye primer before, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this — and after a few weeks of using it, I’m still not really sure what to expect. It feels cool and tingly, and it seems to do a good job with moisturizing my face (I decided to replace my usual eye cream with this), but it doesn’t really work like a “primer” — my eye makeup tends to slide off. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, I know a lot of people love this, but I’m just not really sure.

This stuff is super mighty — make sure you only use a little bit. It works really well as long as you know what you’re doing and I’m so glad I bought it. It’s not going to be like botox, but if you keep your expectations reasonable you will be pleasantly surprised. I think it even helped to shrink my lines, as well as keeping the makeup out of them. Just make sure you don’t use too much — maybe the size of a pin head. No more than that or your results will not be very impressive!

I absolutely love Smashbox, and I have never tried one of their products that I didn’t fall in love with right away. Well, until this primer. I wanted to love it, really. It has a cool, almost minty feeling to it, which is actually kind of cool — except on days my skin was really sensitive. Those days it actually sort of burned, which is not cool. (No pun intended.) I had some trouble getting my makeup to spread over the top of this, too — not sure why? It’s not terrible, so I’m definitely going to keep using it until it’s gone (it’s too much work to return it) but I won’t be buying another one.

I thought that the high price of this primer would make it work with a cheaper concealer I use. I’ve always had some trouble getting my concealer to stay on, and I was under the impression that that’s exactly what primer was for. I wish I could say this helped, but it really didn’t. The concealer slid off and after only a few hours my dark circles were back and just as prominent as ever. Oh well, lesson learned!

I am super new to primer, and really makeup in general. Most days I just wear a little concealer and some mascara, so I was hesitant to add another step to my routine. I’m so glad I did though, because this stuff is wonderful. It’s super light and silky, so it feels like my skin is just naturally better — I can sometimes even skip the concealer now (as long as I got enough sleep the night before). The first few times I tried it, I used way too much, but after checking some tutorials online I found out that you should barely use any. Once I started using less, the results were amazing. Definitely will be buying again!

The women in my family are notoriously “older looking” than our age would suggest, which kind of sucks for me. I’ve got dark eye circles to conceal, but deep lines and wrinkles that have a tendency to hold onto makeup and make it a lot more noticeable. Well, for the past two weeks, I’ve been using this Smashbox primer underneath my concealer, and it makes such a huge difference. Now instead of looking like I’m in my early 40s, I look like I’m in my mid 20s. Definitely an improvement for a 36 year old. I will definitely be getting more when this runs out — please don’t stop making it!

It takes a lot to impress me, since I’ve tried a bunch of different products, and not all of them work like they’re supposed to. This Smashbox eye primer was a gift from a friend, and even though I wasn’t too thrilled that my friends thought I needed a better primer, I was surprisingly pleased once I tried this one out. I’ve been using it for about a month now, along with some Philosophy eye repair stuff (given to me by the same friend) and I’m pretty happy with the results. My concealer doesn’t seem to clump up as much as with my old primer. I’d say that’s a good thing. Thank you Maya for the gifts!

I don’t even know what I would do without this stuff. I have seriously dark eye circles most of the time, no matter how much sleep I get, and it’s tough to feel good about yourself when you look like a punk rocker. Someone told me to try this under eye primer and I am so happy that I did — I have bought a couple tubes, just to make sure I don’t run out, but since you only use a tiny bit at a time I think they’re going to last a really, really long time.

I’ve had a lot of trouble with concealer in the past, especially with my eye area. In my experience the stuff tends to smear when my face is dry, and if I use moisturizer it just doesn’t stick. This primer makes it to where the concealer actually STICKS to my eye area, which is an absolute must! (Otherwise, what’s the point of even using concealer?) It’s not magic, you still have to know what you’re doing, but it’s pretty darn close. It moisturizes this problem area without making it too oily or greasy. I can’t say enough good things about the Smashbox eye primer! This is one you have to try You won’t regret it!

OK so — I never thought I’d be the kind of woman to willingly add an extra step to my makeup routine. I had never heard of eye primer before (and thought that face primers were silly, since I don’t really have a lot of wrinkles, and I’m not ashamed of my age). Now that I’ve tried it, though, I can’t believe I ever went without it. This stuff is so great and it makes my eyes look flawless. It even helps to hide those pesky eye bags. Get a sample, and you will see just how much this under eye primer can do for you!

I use this with a concealer from Sephora and I just have to say… Wow. My eyes have never looked better, not even when I was a teenager! Now they look bright, moisturized, and dare I say more vibrant too. I was afraid to use concealer for the longest time because I was afraid it would draw more attention to the lines under my eyes — now with this primer, I can say, “What lines?”
Definitely consider this a must-have. Wish I found it much sooner!

If you’re looking for a miracle cure… Keep looking. There’s no such thing but if you find one please let me know. This doesn’t get rid of my under eye circles, but it does help a little — and when I use the Photo Op Under Eye Brightener (also from Smashbox) and pretty much any decent concealer, there’s a noticeable reduction in the total darkness of my eye bags. If you’re not sure, I understand the price can be a big concern, but let me tell you — it helps as a part of your overall routine.

I can’t stop bragging about this primer. I work long days and have been looking for something that will keep my makeup in place… My old eye cream seemed to make my makeup slide around, which is not great. I guess it has something to do with the stuff that eats your dead skin or something? I don’t know. Anyway, when I found this product I couldn’t wait to try it out, and I’m so glad I did. My friends are asking what I use, and even strangers have noticed something “magic”. Definitely worth the price!

This primer works wonders. I use it over the top of a retinoid cream (Philosophy Miracle Worker, to be specific), and it practically erases my fine lines and wrinkles. It doesn’t really do much else — it’s just a primer, after all, so you shouldn’t expect it to work as a concealer — but what it does do, it does very well. I’m not big on makeup but I wish I had found this stuff way sooner!

I am in love with this primer. I’ve tried so many different products, but it has taken me a long time to find the combination that works best for me. This helps seal the lines under my eyes to keep my makeup out of them, which of course makes me look younger (no wrinkles!). This made my eye area look smoother and helped my concealer to stay on, which is a must at my age. My face looks fresh and hydrated. Thank you Smashbox!

For some reason I was expecting this to work more like a concealer — it’s not, though. This didn’t really do anything for my dark circles or my face being puffy, but it is a pretty good primer. I already had another primer that didn’t cost as much, though, so for me it wasn’t really worth the price I paid. Maybe if your dark circles aren’t as bad, it’ll work better for you — but I’d rather stick with my old primer.

I think I might have been expecting a little too much when I first bought this — I was hoping it would be an all-in-one solution, and that’s definitely not what it is. This is a primer, as the name implies, so you will still have to use your moisturizer, your concealer, your foundation, etc. But when you add this step (which really doesn’t take that long) you should notice a creamy texture under your eyes — wrinkles are a lot less noticeable, and your other makeup will stay in place longer.

This under eye primer has a strange feeling to it (but in a good way). It’s cool and refreshing, which helps make me feel more “awake”. At my age I didn’t really expect it to do much for my lines and wrinkles… I don’t think there’s anything out there that actually helps. They all say they do, but the best you can do is help smooth them out. They’re still going to be there at the end of the day. I bought this to go with a concealer I was buying. Well, I ended up returning the concealer and just using this. I love it!

I was hoping that this would be something I could use by itself (I saw some other reviews that said that women were able to wear it with or without makeup) but for me that just wasn’t the case.
Still, when I used it with a good concealer and a good foundation, I had good results — but I’m not sure how much was because of this or how much of it was my makeup. I can see a difference when I use it, but there are definitely other steps I have to use to make it “perfect” — for the price I sort of hoped it would do a little more.

Let me start by saying that I have noticed that my fine lines seem to “eat” my makeup — the concealer I use (Benefit Erase) tends to fall into the wrinkles and makes them way more noticeable. This doesn’t get rid of the wrinkles, but it helps to keep the makeup out of it, so when you do put on your makeup you’re not going to look older. I love this primer. It keeps my makeup perfect all day long. Thank you, Smashbox!

This stuff worked OK, but for me it wasn’t much different than using a good moisturizer. A lot of it depends on what you’re using the product with, too. If you use this with a good moisturizer and a great concealer, it’s obviously going to work a lot better than if you use it by itself, so keep that in mind — it’s not going to magically make cheap makeup into great makeup. I didn’t hate it, I just wasn’t impressed.

This primer said it was going to brighten my dark circles, get rid of my wrinkles, and keep my makeup in place. Well… One out of three isn’t too bad. It is an awesome primer, but I’m a little disappointed that it didn’t do the other stuff like it said it would. My dark circles are still dark and my fine lines are still there. But my makeup lasted all day. It’s not horrible for the price, but I’m probably not going to buy another one. Lesson learned!

I was hoping that this would help me cover up my wrinkles, as I’m not exactly young. I made sure to check all the reviews, but I’m not sure how these other ladies came up with the idea that it was “crease resistant”. Maybe my wrinkles are a little deeper than theirs? It started off great, nice and smooth, but after only a couple hours my wrinkles were right back out. I returned it after the first use. Maybe it’ll work better for the younger ladies who don’t need as much “crease resistance” as I do!

The Smashbox Photo Finish Eye Primer is super creamy, it lasts a long time, and even better — it works. I’ve been using it for about a year now and I couldn’t be happier. It is just a primer, so you’re going to have to put concealer and foundation on top, but it will make a significant difference in the appearance of your makeup. I love this stuff — I feel so much more youthful and confident when I’m wearing it.

After a tip from a friend, I started using this Smashbox primer instead of my usual face moisturizer. It helps to keep my face hydrated, which is great, and it even keeps the makeup out of my creases. It doesn’t really do much else, but it’s not supposed to — if you’re wanting a concealer or a collagen treatment, you’re going to have to buy that separately. But as far as primers go, this works really well. Definitely not disappointed.

This stuff is probably not going to fix all your problems, but when you use it with the right products for your skin, it makes your concealer work better and makes your wrinkles a lot less noticeable. I’m still pretty young (early 30s) so I don’t have a lot of creases, but the ones I do have are completely invisible when I use this stuff under my concealer. (Just for reference, I use Benefit Erase concealer — another great product if you haven’t tried it!)

Now that I’ve been using this Smashbox primer, I can go back to pretending those lines aren’t there — wonderful! I don’t know if it makes my concealer stay on any better, but it definitely brightens under my eyes and keeps the wrinkles hidden except on my worst days. I’m so glad I found this.

If you don’t know what primer is for, it’s basically the same as primer for paint — it helps to smooth the color and texture before you put on the real stuff. But this is extra special because it can actually be used alone — it helps to smooth out those little dots under your eyes (not sure if everyone gets that or just me) and it’s got a light color to help your concealer work better. If you’re on the fence about this one, don’t be. It’s amazing!

I have really dark eye circles, and extremely dry skin. I never thought that a single product could help with both problems but this primer really does. It doesn’t fix the problems completely, but it helps to keep your concealer from sliding off, and you can even use it underneath your moisturizer. Just make sure that you let each layer dry before you put the next one on. This stuff seems pretty expensive, but you use such a small amount that it will really last a long time. I’ve been using it for about 6 months and I’m just starting to run low.

I have always loved using primers — for anyone who hasn’t used them before, you have no idea what you’re missing. But I didn’t know that there is a difference between face primer and under eye primer — and this Photo Finish really makes a difference. The skin under your eyes is a lot different than the skin on the rest of your face, and this primer is designed specifically for the eye skin. This took my concealer from cakey and streaky to perfection, and it’s even easier to apply my makeup than it was with my regular primer. I can’t recommend it enough.

First off, let me start by saying that your results will be different depending on the combination of products you use — along with this primer, I use a BB cream that’s by Smashbox too, so that probably factors into my success. That being said, the combination of the two makes my eyes look “dewy” (or so I’ve been told — never been much of a “dewy” person!) This helps keep the concealer from settling into my wrinkles, which of course makes my wrinkles a lot less noticeable. It’s a huge difference compared to when I was just using the BB cream. I have really sensitive eyes and this doesn’t really bother them, and I look a lot younger, too.

I was told about this primer by my mother in law. We both use Coverf/x concealer, and I wondered why hers always looked smooth and mine looked cakey — even though she’s more than 20 years older than me. Well, once I started using this under the concealer, I noticed a huge difference. It’s a little shiny, which makes it great for brightening dark circles (especially when used with a decent concealer). It doesn’t blend very well with a brush, so you’ll probably want to use a blender instead of a regular brush, but otherwise this is super. Very hydrating, and some days I even wear it without makeup over the top.

Sadly I have really dark under eye circles, and I have to use a lot of concealer. Anyone who uses concealer knows that it can make things look so much worse if you don’t have a good primer, but not everyone knows that face primer isn’t the same as eye primer. Well, this primer is great because it helps to target the specific issues I have under my eyes. People who don’t have dark circles or dryness probably won’t care. It’s a little on the expensive side, considering it’s not for your whole face, but it definitely works better than trying to make your whole-face primer work for your eye area!

So the product description says that it’ll reduce all these problems on your face in like 8 weeks. I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks so far and I’m not noticing any changes yet. I know it’s still early, but I don’t think that it’s going to be this drastic change at the last minute — I feel like I should see SOME improvement by now. It does feel really nice though, and it’s a good primer, even though it’s more expensive than the one I normally use. I don’t understand why everyone seems to think you need a special primer just for your eyes — my regular Smashbox Photo Finish works just fine for me.

I know this is supposed to be used under the eyes, but I love it so much I use it as an eyelid primer too. Even though that’s not what it’s “for”, it still does a pretty good job holding my eyeshadow in place, and it helps keep me moisturized too. I use it to cover the dark spots at the side of my nose too — it helps! You’ll probably get the best results if you use a full-face primer too, but if you’re only worried about the eye area, this is great all by itself.

I didn’t really need a primer, since I don’t really wear foundation too much, but I was hoping that this would actually help brighten under my eyes, my dark circles are a bit too dark for my concealer. It probably doesn’t help with fine lines either, but I don’t have any so I don’t know. It’s a good primer, it makes my face feel pretty smooth I guess, but it just wasn’t for me.

This is like having two different products in the same tube, and I love it. It does add some extra steps to your routine, but for those who don’t have as bad of issues this might not be a problem — it might help to replace your concealer and your under-eye cream. For me, I put it over the top of a moisturizer and then put my concealer on top (after it has dried). I usually put a lot of makeup on anyway though so the extra step doesn’t really make much of a difference.

This is seriously the solution to every problem I’ve had with my face over the last couple years. I’ve tried so many different eye creams and none of them work with my skin — I have no idea why. But this adds moisture better than any of them did, and it even helped to minimize my lines after a couple months. (Yeah, it doesn’t work right away — but why are we so focused on instant results these days?) This is one thing you don’t know you need — but trust me, you need this!

This is not the first time I have bought this product, and I don’t think I really need to try anything else. It keeps all my other eye makeup in place, without drying out my face or clogging up my pores. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for something natural-looking. I can’t stop bragging about this eye primer! It even helps to hide the veins under my eyes, even if I use it without concealer on top.

I am going to keep buying this until they stop making it. It helped with my wrinkles and it makes me look more awake. It feels great on my skin and it even keeps my makeup in place. Seriously, what else do you need? I have been using it for almost a year now and the results are amazing. Friends have noticed that I seem to be aging backwards. It makes them jealous — I probably shouldn’t keep it a secret but I just can’t help it.

OK, so at first I got this primer as a sample, but I immediately fell in love with it and had to buy the full-sized tube. And trust me when I say I’m so glad I did! Most of the time I just put it over moisturizer, but on days when I need extra coverage, I’ll use an eye cream under and a concealer on top. It can be used on the eyelids too (even though it’s not really meant for that — so your mileage may vary).

OK, this is going to sound stupid, but… I didn’t want to like this stuff. “It’s so expensive,” I told myself. “Just thank the friend who gave it to you and make sure you use it once so you can tell her you tried it.” The only problem is… I was totally wrong. This is a magic little tube that helps with creasing, caking, and so many things that were wrong with my makeup routine. I’ve used other primers before, but this one is actually made for under your eyes, so it works so much better. I am so impressed!

I have had these horrible bags under my eyes ever since I was pretty young, and I have tried probably a million different products to try and get rid of them. Obviously I’m a big fan of concealers, but it took me a long time to realize that regular makeup primer wasn’t going to get my circles ready for coverage. You need a product that’s specifically made for the skin under your eyes.
Well, I’m a pretty big fan of Smashbox in the first place, so it came as no surprise that this product was wonderful. If you need your eyes to pop without touch-ups and creases, this primer is a winner!

I was just looking for something to help my concealer along, and I guess this does a good job. It’s a little shimmery (which I didn’t really expect) but that helps to brighten my eyes, so it’s not bad. I don’t really notice much of a difference once I put my makeup on top, though — I look a little more awake, but my concealer still gets a little globby. I usually end up using it by itself on days when I don’t feel like wearing makeup. It’s not bad, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again.

There are a few different ways you can use this product, and depending on how you use it, your results will be different. I personally choose to moisturize, then put this primer on, and then apply concealer over the top of it — the primer will help to lock the moisturizer in. Some days I don’t even use concealer over the top of it, it gives me some color correction all by itself! Makes me look so much younger.

I had really high hopes for this, but it stung — I couldn’t even put my concealer on over the top. Just had to wash it off. I tried it a second time thinking maybe I just put too much the first time, and even with half as much, it still burned my skin. People with sensitive skin, be careful what you put on your face — and this one probably isn’t a good pick! I don’t recommend this, and I won’t buy another one.

Ok so for those of you who might be on the fence as to whether you need this or not, it’s basically an eye cream — but with the added bonus of not making the rest of your makeup slide off. This means that it’s pretty much two products in one, which makes the price tag seem so much more worth it.
If you’re already using an eye cream, you should pay attention to whether or not it has retinols in it. Since these are designed to get rid of dead skin cells, think of the effect they’ll have on your makeup — yeah, it’s not going to work under makeup.
This cream has no retinols, and is comparable to a morning cream, but with light color.

I don’t know if this works good with concealer, since I haven’t really tried it like that. I tried it on my face and it felt really cool, which was surprising — but it took a long time to dry. I felt like my eye area was super moist and refreshed, and I definitely feel more awake. I guess I’m going to have to keep trying it to see if anyone else notices a difference. I don’t really have the time to wait for it to dry before I put on the rest of my makeup. It feels really wet for quite awhile — I don’t know how much is the cooling effect and how much is oiliness, but it definitely feels neat.

If you have trouble getting your under-eye concealer to stick (or if you have trouble with your liner sliding off), you need an under-eye primer. It’s not the same as regular primer — you’re not going to want to use it for your whole face. It just takes a little bit to take your makeup from OK to great. I’ll be buying some more to give as gifts pretty soon — this stuff is like a miracle!

I have had a lot of trouble with puffiness and dark circles, and of course my concealer sticks to every little line and pore in my face. This is what primer is for — and this primer is great. It cancels out all the dark circles, and it fills in the lines. Obviously it’s not a permanent fix, but you can feel it working — it’s sort of tingly, but not painful, and it definitely does help with the puffiness. The dark circles don’t really go away once you rub it in all the way (because it’s pretty sheer) but your face will feel cool and smooth — which is good enough for me!

I probably wouldn’t have bought this if I hadn’t been able to get a free sample first. Ladies, you know that makeup can be hit or miss — and this one is definitely a hit. The first time I wore it, I was already getting compliments about how much better my skin looked. Super impressed. I look airbrushed now and I can’t even picture leaving it out of my makeup routine. My skin looks flawless and I feel like a goddess. I have already bought the full-sized tube, and I’m not even through the sample yet. Can’t thank you enough!

I try a lot of different products, and it takes quite a bit to impress me. This happens to be one of my favorite primers, especially for the under eye area (but I use it on my whole face if I’m in a hurry… I’d rather use this all over than my other one, if I don’t have time for both). It is super important that you use it the right way though (not necessarily “where”, but “how”). If you use too much, or you don’t let it dry, or you don’t blend it in well, your face is going to look worse than without it. There are plenty of Youtube videos to tell you how to use it though. Definitely try it.

Beauty products are a pretty subjective thing, because not everyone has the same skin type, the same needs, etc. That being said, I LOVE this cream. It’s better than trying to use regular primer, because the problems under your eyes are a lot different than the problems you might have with the rest of your face. Using regular primer there would basically be like trying to use lipstick for eyeshadow — sure, you can put it there, but it’s not going to work right. This cream helps to get rid of the puffiness and dark circles under your eyes, and it helps concealer stick better — which is a must for anyone who wants their makeup to last. Highly recommend!
